Alejandro Garnacho finally breaks silence on Man United transfer after Chelsea move

Alejandro Garnacho has shared an emotional message to the Manchester United supporters following his blockbuster move to Chelsea. The Blues confirmed the signing of Garnacho, 21, on Saturday for £40million.

The Argentina international has penned a seven-year contract running through to 2032 and became the ninth new arrival through the Stamford Bridge doors. Speaking after his move was confirmed, Garnacho told the club's website: "It's an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club. I can't wait to get started.

"I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we're the best team in the world!"

Now, Garnacho has since taken to Instagram to issue a heartfelt statement to his former club United, after spending five years there following his move from Atletico Madrid back in 2020. During his time in Manchester, Garnacho made 144 appearances, scoring 26 goals and providing 22 assists.

However, Garnacho made it clear earlier this summer that he wanted to leave and move to pastures new. After a long transfer saga that dragged out until the final two days of the window, Garnacho is finally a Chelsea player.

In a post on Monday afternoon, Garnacho, who has 11.6 million followers, said: "Dear Mánchester. After an unforgettable five years, this special chapter in my life now comes to a close.

"We have created moments that will stay with me forever, and I'm very grateful for this. To the coaches, staff, and my teammates, thank you for believing in me. Every time I wore the badge, I gave everything I had.

"I leave proud of what we achieved together and excited for what's to come. Wishing the club nothing but success for the future, while I look forward to giving my all in the next chapter of my career [red love heart emoji]."

Following his departure from United, the Reds released a detailed statement to thank Garnacho for his service, having broke into the first-team during Erik ten Hag's tenure back in 2022.

In a statement at the time, United said: "Alejandro Garnacho has completed a permanent move from Manchester United to Chelsea. "The Argentina international joined our Academy from Atletico Madrid in 2020 and made his senior debut in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at Old Trafford in April 2022.

"He went on to make 144 first-team appearances for the club, scoring 26 goals. The 21-year-old was part of squads that won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the Emirates FA Cup in 2024, and made his final competitive appearance in last season’s UEFA Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur in Bilbao. We would like to thank Alejandro for his contribution and wish him the best of luck for the next chapter in his career."
