Alejandro Garnacho to Chelsea transfer latest as Man Utd winger dealt major blow

3 hours ago 44

Alejandro Garnacho continues to be heavily linked with a move to Chelsea as Enzo Maresca looks to bolster his attacking options before the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1.

On the final day of last season, Ruben Amorim dropped the Manchester United winger from the matchday squad. Garnacho was then benched for the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, despite having started each of the previous knockout round ties.

If the writing wasn't already on the wall, Amorim left him at home when the Red Devils jetted off to the United States for pre-season. Speaking to reporters in Atlanta, the United boss confirmed that the Argentina international was free to leave.

So, with that being said, football.london has rounded up everything you need to know about Garnacho and a potential transfer to Chelsea.

Garnacho remains a priority for Chelsea

According to The Athletic, Garnacho remains a priority target for Chelsea, as Maresca looks to bring in competition for Jamie Gittens. The report claims that the United winger has his heart set on a move to Stamford Bridge, ruling out all other options. It's said that the Blues are 'active in talks' with the Red Devils as they look to find a solution.

Chelsea chip away at United deal

football.london understands Chelsea are still working on a deal to sign Garnacho from United, but they're reluctant to pay more than £30m. The 21-year-old winger, who has attracted plenty of interest this summer, has made it clear that he wishes to join the Blues.

The Red Devils value Garnacho at £50m, but Chelsea are hoping to get a bargain given his situation at Old Trafford. The Argentinean fell out of favour with Amorim at the end of last term, and he played no role in United's opening game of the new Premier League season.

Garnacho left out of World Cup qualifiers squad

Lionel Scaloni hasn't named Garnacho in the preliminary Argentina squad for the upcoming World Cup Qualifiers in September. The United winger hasn't featured for his country since he coming off the bench in a 2-1 defeat to Paraguay in November 2024.

Amorim announces Garnacho decision

Earlier this month, Amorim described Garnacho as a 'talented boy', who wants 'a different thing with a different leadership'. The United boss said: "I think Garnacho, you can understand and you can see, he's talented, that he's a really talented boy.

"And sometimes things don't work out. You cannot explain specifically what it is. But I have the feeling, I think it's clear that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership. I can understand that.

"So I think it's not a problem. Sometimes you adapt to one guy; you have the connection. Other times, you want a new challenge. So, we try to make everything okay to all parts. To the club, to the coach and to the [other] players. So, it's a natural thing in football..."
