Alex Scott's position at the BBC was reportedly thrown into uncertainty after she was allegedly held responsible for a drop in viewing figures.

The Arsenal icon has been with the broadcaster since 2017, carving out a significant role as a presenter on numerous programmes, including Football Focus. Scott, who is currently appearing on ' I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!', took over from long-standing host Dan Walker in 2021.

Despite the show's 50-year run, it was reported in 2023 that it had lost a third of its audience in just four years. The ex-Lioness was reportedly blamed by the BBC for the dwindling viewing figures, leading to Scott expressing her "deeply hurt".

She subsequently lodged a complaint with management, with an insider suggesting that Scott's tenure as the host of Football Focus could be nearing its end. In 2023, they told The Sun: "There are no guarantees she will be with the BBC next summer - her contract is up for renewal and she is in talks for a raft of other exciting projects."

"Football Focus turns 50 this year and Alex is now seriously contemplating moving on from the show. Last year she was hugely hurt by unfair criticism about falling viewing figures - and felt she was thrown under a bus.

"The viewing figures were not as reported and she feels no-one backed her up and issued the correct viewing figures. The viewing figures are actually super healthy, and Alex raised her concerns as she has been in this business long enough now to stand up for herself."

They added: "Alex has never been happier than she is right now, she's just turned 40 and embracing a new chapter in her life, and the decision to part ways from Children In Need - an event she is hugely proud to have been a part of - was entirely mutual."

Nevertheless, Scott has continued as presenter of Football Focus and remains a key figure in BBC programming, with her earnings clearly demonstrating her value to the corporation.

Her wage from 2024 to 2025 ranged between £205,000 and £209,999, making her the sixth highest-earning personality on BBC Sport during that period. Only Gary Lineker, Mark Chapman, Alan Shearer, Jason Mohammad and Rick Edwards commanded higher fees than the former footballer.

Scott is now making the switch from the BBC to ITV, though only temporarily for her appearance on I'm A Celeb, a move her girlfriend, singer Jess Glynne, branded her "mental" for making.

Scott revealed: "Jess thinks I am absolutely mental, but she will be my biggest supporter, and my mum absolutely loves the show. Thinking of her tuning in every night will bring a tear."

Scott acknowledged that one of her primary obstacles in the jungle will be avoiding slipping back into her reserved nature when surrounded by the various strong characters she'll be living alongside in the coming days and weeks. "I will need to push myself to speak out around all of the different and big personalities," she explained.

"Not going into myself for being the shy one will be my big challenge. People see you on TV and they assume you are outgoing, that loud person but take me to red carpets or events and I am the one in the corner going, 'Talk to me, please give me a plus one so I don't have to be that person who walks in on my own,' it's going to be a challenge."
