Liverpool had to fight hard to get Alexander Isak during the summer, but just a few months on, it seems Newcastle may have got better value out of the transfer.

Isak was of course involved in an almighty tussle to get his move to Anfield, which resulted in him going on strike at his former club. The Magpies held firm for much of the summer, and it wasn’t until the final days of the window that the Sweden international got his wish.

It was Nick Woltemade’s move from Stuttgart to St James’ Park that effectively set the ball rolling for Isak to get his move to Liverpool, with the striker eventually completing his transfer on deadline day for a Premier League record £125 million ($168M).

Since then though, Isak has struggled to find his feet on Merseyside, scoring just three goals in 16 appearances while struggling for fitness after missing pre-season. The 26-year-old is currently out for a lengthy spell after breaking his leg against Tottenham last month.

In comparison, his replacement at Newcastle has fared much better. Woltemade has nine goals in 26 appearances across all competitions for his new club, and it’s not just his goals that will be making the Magpies happy.

A new report suggests that Woltemade is now more valuable than Isak. According to the CIES Football Observatory’s latest findings, the German international is now among the five most valuable players in the Premier League, while Isak has slipped considerably down the list.

Woltemade is valued at €120.5M (around $141M), while Isak is valued at €95M (around $111M) - already a significant drop from what Liverpool paid for him - which places him as just the 16th most valuable player in the league.

A number of factors will be included in the valuation, including the two players’ respective ages - Woltemade is nearly three years younger than Isak - as well as their current output.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Manchester City’s Erling Haaland is rated as the most valuable player in the Premier League at €255.1M (around $298M), and he is a long way ahead of his nearest rival.

Liverpool does have two players in the top four though, with Florian Wirtz considered the league’s second-most valuable player at €135.8M ($159M), while Hugo Ekitike is fourth at €124.1M ($145M), with Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers third at €125.9M ($147M).

Ryan Gravenberch also features high on the list, with his €100.6M ($118M) placing him 10th, while Cody Gakpo is just behind his fellow Dutchman, having been valued at €100.3M ($117M).
