Allegri discusses difficulty of Perth Glory and Serie A aims: “We’re a very young team”

This morning, Massimiliano Allegri has spoken about how he could use younger players for AC Milan against Perth Glory and the upcoming Serie A campaign.

The changes since Allegri came to Milan have been visible. With each game, it seems that the team are more comfortable and can recognise and play his ideas with more ease. Of course, it needs to be taken with a pinch of salt.

However, the basics are there, and this should only improve with time. Over a season, who knows where the Rossoneri could end up, especially with more mercato reinforcements planned to arrive.

For now, though, the squad must focus on the game in Perth tomorrow, which could be a pilot for a Serie A game next season. It is a game where the Diavolo will be expected to win comfortably, but it will be a big test against a different style of opponent.

Allegri’s words

As Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) relays from Australia, the manager took several questions from the media.

Tomorrow’s opponent will be different from Arsenal and Liverpool…

“We’re in the final stretch of the tour, and we’ve worked well. We need to play seriously, respecting our opponents, who will give their all. It’ll be important for them to compete against us, but it’ll also be a crucial test for us to improve our physical and tactical condition.

“It’s an important test mentally, because against Arsenal and Liverpool, it was easy to maintain a high level of focus and concentration. Tomorrow, we’ll see how much we’ve improved mentally in terms of respecting our opponents.”

Will it be possible to include young Italians in the squad?

“The term ‘young’ in terms of the transfer market is abstract. If someone is good, they play. We’re a very young team, however, and that’s a good advantage for the future.”

What is the grid for Serie A?

“Napoli are the favorites to win the Scudetto because usually, whoever wins is always the favorite. Then there’s Inter, who are strong and have been working hard for years. Then Juve, Atalanta, Roma, Fiorentina, and Lazio: there are many teams that will be fighting for the top four spots.

“Is not playing in European competitions an advantage? We’ll be able to train all week, but the disadvantage will be that Milan has to play in the Champions League to compete with top-flight teams and great opponents.”

Modric and Gimenez will arrive at Milanello soon…

“They’ll join the group, and some young players will return with Milan Futuro and the Primavera. We’ll start the final 15 days like this to be prepared for our Coppa Italia debut against Bari. Estupinan? He’s strong and is fitting into a group of players with strong values on and off the pitch.”
