Allegri on Modric’s replacement for Fiorentina vs. Milan: “Two excellent players”

Massimiliano Allegri was asked about who will replace Luka Modric in midfield against Fiorentina, and if you read between the lines, there seems to be a current favourite.

After starting every single game in the league so far (!), Modric is finally set to get some rest. As confirmed by Allegri during his pre-match presser for Fiorentina-Milan, it’s very unlikely that the Croatian will feature tomorrow, even if he will be on the bench.

In other words, someone else will start in the central midfield role for the first time in the league this season. Naturally, the journalists asked the manager about who will start in place of Modric, and there seems to be a favourite.

Who will replace Modric tomorrow?

“Ricci and Jashari are two excellent players. Ricci has played almost 1,000 minutes and is very reliable. I’m very happy. We now have four games back-to-back, so perhaps there will be more changes.

“When you play one game a week, it’s difficult to replace starters. Jashari will have a bright future, Ricci has made himself very useful. I don’t know who will play tomorrow, or maybe they will both play,” he stated.

Based on the above and the reports from this morning, Ricci is the favourite to start in midfield instead of the veteran. He has often come off the bench as a mezz’ala, so it will be very interesting to see him in his true role.
