Massimiliano Allegri has provided a revised prediction of what it will take to win the Scudetto after his AC Milan side ended 2025 with a win.
Milan signed off the calendar year in style by beating Hellas Verona 3-0 and condemning them to going into 2026 in the bottom three. The Rossoneri meanwhile have a chance of going into the new year top of the table, depending on how Inter get on against Atalanta later.
They took care of business in front of their own fans in professional fashion though. Christian Pulisic got the opener just before the break, then Christopher Nkunku got off the mark in Serie A with a rapid brace. It was also nice to buck the trend of dropping points and conceding goals to the ‘lesser’ sides.
Allegri’s assessment
Allegri was interviewed by DAZN after the full-time whistle at San Siro, and he reflected on what was a very positive performance and result for his side. MilanNews transcribed what he had to say.
Three important points, zero goals conceded. But after the 3-0 goal, you asked a lot of the team…
“These are moments in the game that need to be played differently. You have to keep the ball, and you don’t do that standing still, but moving. And by keeping the ball stationary, we played some difficult, long balls under pressure that we lost. We can definitely improve on that.”

Finally, Nkunku gets goals…
“It’s normal. He’s a very sensitive guy who wanted to do well. Today, after the penalty, he unlocked himself, he scored a goal that’s in his DNA: attacking Modric’s shot. I think he can still improve like everyone else.
“In the first half, we were a little tense, but organised. We didn’t even concede a single corner. In the second half, we did better; at the end of the first half, we broke the deadlock from a corner. At 3-0, we could and should have had better ball control.”
What did you like most today? Set-piece goals, then clean sheet, or going 15 unbeaten in the league?
“The further we go, the more difficult it will be. For one thing, in five days we’ll have a tough match like the one against Cagliari, because playing in Cagliari is always difficult. They’re tough games, but yesterday they had a great win.
“We need to prepare well. However, today some players got a little more playing time in the final stages of the match. We need everyone because there’s a crucial month and a half between now and February 15th.”

Is 83 points the right amount for the title or are more needed?
“Currently, the quota is between 82 and 84, it could become 86. Then, if a team goes on a strong run, I don’t know, but right now the quota is around 84. For us, it was important to win today because we had drawn with Sassuolo and lost to Napoli.
“Today, it was important to win because Verona is a tough team, and above all, we finally beat a small team at home. That was very important. Then we’ll take it one step at a time. We need to get all the players back.
“We need Leao to be 100%, Pulisic isn’t 100% yet, Nkunku is growing, Fofana is returning from injury. I’m very happy, we need to continue working calmly with the clear goal of returning to play in the Champions League next year. As Capello said, it’s a very difficult objective.”
Are you going to dinner with Andrea Agnelli tonight?
“I was very pleased that the president came to watch the game. Beyond the professional aspect, we have a relationship that goes beyond the human level. We’re going now, rather than tonight, in fact, I want to run away, because the restaurant is waiting for us for lunch (laughs).”
