During his press conference for Milan-Bologna, Massimiliano Allegri was asked about Santiago Gimenez’s qualities and he only had words of praise for the Mexican.
It has been a strange start to the season for Gimenez. After joining the team a little late in the pre-season, though scoring in his first friendly, he was heavily linked with an exit. In fact, the sporting director Igli Tare even went on record and said they were considering a swap.
He did so just before the Lecce game, in which the striker scored a goal that was disallowed for a narrow offside. He also missed a couple of good chances, fueling Tare’s words, but in the end he remained at the club.
Allegri full of praise
Now, with the boost of scoring for Mexico, he will have to find the back of the net as Allegri is willing to give him a leading role. During the press conference earlier today, the manager was asked about Gimenez and how he can help the team.
“I’m happy with what Gimenez has done for the national team: he’s good, he’s got goals in his legs. He arrived in January last year, and the first six months, especially coming in mid-season, are a period of adjustment. I think Gimenez can have a great season this year,” he stated.
It remains to be seen if Gimenez can hit the ground running against Bologna tomorrow. Milan could definitely use it as Rafael Leao has been ruled out for the Udinese game as well.
