Allegri states Maignan is ‘at peace’ after renewal questioning: “It’s the club that handles it”

Massimiliano Allegri has stated that he is not involved in the contract renewal of Mike Maignan, which could be a blow for AC Milan.

After the derby, Maignan has been the focus, and after that performance, it was always going to be the case. The Frenchman won the derby with several top saves, including the penalty stop against Hakan Calhanoglu.

The focus, though, has been split between his performance and his future. Ultimately, with his deal expiring this summer, all good performances will be met with the same reaction.

Maignan’s future

Speaking to the press yesterday, Allegri was asked about the goalkeeper’s future, and he was rather coy in his response.

“Mike has always been one of the best goalkeepers around. So I’m not surprised by his performance. As for his contract, it’s the club that handles it. They’re working to give this team a future and stability in the coming years.

“I talk to Mike, but I talk to him on the pitch. And Filippi, his coach, also talks to us about this. I’m happy, I see him at peace: he’s confirming his qualities.”

Considering the Italian stated that he had not spoken to Adrien Rabiot in the summer, it could be a little white lie to the media. If he can help with the decision, many would hope he gets involved in the discussions.
