Ally McCoist names surprise best signing from a ‘good’ Tottenham transfer window

Ally McCoist has named who he thinks Tottenham Hotspur’s best signing of the summer window is, and it is not Xavi Simons.

Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer dealings during the summer window were not flawless, but there is a fair argument to be made that the club did what was required.

The Lilywhites backed new head coach Thomas Frank with six new signings, targeting key areas of the squad that were in desperate need of strengthening.

Among those arrivals, two stand out as marquee additions, with Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons joining for over £100 million, while Joao Palhinha and Randal Kolo Muani, despite only arriving on loan, are players of proven quality who can slot straight into the side and immediately raise the standard.

Ally McCoist makes bold claim about Tottenham and Thomas Frank

Despite making six signings this summer, Ally McCoist, speaking on talkSport, argued that Tottenham’s biggest signing of the window was actually Thomas Frank himself.

The former Scottish international claims that Tottenham will have a strong season under Frank this term and also believes that some of the additions Spurs made to their squad this summer are really good, praising the signings of Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel.

“I see Spurs having a good season,” said Jeff Stelling, to which McCoist replied: “I don’t disagree, the result at the weekend was obviously a disappointment.

“But listen, the fact of the matter is, we’ve seen enough for Bournemouth already this season, particularly in that opening game against Liverpool, that they’re more than capable of beating anyone on their day.

“But if you throw in Mathys Tel and Danso, who will certainly take part, I think they’ve had a good window. I’m not sure it’s the best window, but I definitely think they had a good window.

“I tell you what, their best signing might be their manager; he might just be the best signing they’ve made in a number of years. I think he’s a terrific coach, terrific manager, and he’ll do really, really well.”

Thomas Frank already proving his worth at Spurs

Frank stepped into the Tottenham dugout this summer after Daniel Levy sacked Ange Postecoglou following a disastrous Premier League campaign that saw Spurs finish 17th.

In just three league outings, Frank has already shown signs of improvement, winning two of those games and keeping two clean sheets in the process, something that had been a real weakness last term.

It will not be a straightforward season by any means, with Frank now tasked with balancing both Champions League and Premier League commitments for the first time in his career, but with Spurs having heavily backed him in the market, the pressure is on to deliver.
