Massimo Ambrosini believes that Luka Modric could have an Ibrahimovic-esque impact at AC Milan because of his infectious character.
Modric’s time at Milan so far has been very positive indeed. Not only did he score a winner at San Siro against Bologna last month but he has led from the front in terms of his performance levels, even at the age of 40.
The emotional reaction from the Croatian after beating the reigning champions Napoli on Sunday showed how much he cares, and all this for a man who is at the end of his career and has already won nearly everything there is to win as a player.
Speaking to Cronache di Spogliatoio, Ambrosini was asked about the impact that Modric has had at Milan after just a couple of months, showing how he can lead his team-mates by example.
“I compare him to Ibrahimovic for his ability to infect others. Modric is great not only for the way he plays, but also because in the 99th minute of Milan-Napoli he ran 30 metres to deflect a cross with a slide,” he said (via MilanNews).
“These are driving gestures in a team that lacked any compelling personalities. If someone like Modric makes a gesture like that, you’re forced to get on that wavelength.
“If you’re a normal player and you see someone like him make those plays, you ask yourself questions and you realise that you have to ask them too and align yourself with Modric’s greatness.”
