Andy Robertson and Real Madrid duo show true colors to mascots before Champions League game

Andy Robertson showed his class ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League game against Real Madrid as he helped out a mascot.

The Scotland international was instrumental as the Reds beat the 15-time European champions 1-0 at Anfield, thanks to Alexis Mac Allister’s second half header. It could have been even more had it not been for Thibaut Courtois in the visitors’ goal, but there was no doubt that Liverpool was deserving of its victory.

Robertson, who was named as the club’s new vice-captain in the summer following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s departure, has played a big part in the Reds’ recent turnaround, having started in both wins over Real and Aston Villa.

And the 31-year-old demonstrated exactly why he’s loved by Liverpool fans before kick-off. On a cold and rainy night on Merseyside, the mascots that made their way out onto the pitch with the two teams didn’t look to be enjoying the conditions too much.

Robertson though was on hand to wrap his mascot in his warm-up jacket, giving them some protection against elements.

He wasn’t the only player to show his class, with Real Madrid’s Dean Huijsen and Arda Guler also making the same gesture as the teams lined up for the Champions League anthem.

Robertson will now hope to retain his spot in Arne Slot’s line-up as Liverpool faces another tough test before the international break, with the Reds traveling to Manchester City on Saturday.

Speaking after Tuesday’s win, Robertson told the club’s website: “I thought from minute one we were all bang there tonight and just carried on from Saturday in terms of being hard to beat, working hard for each other, always trying to help your mate out. Then I thought the quality was there as well.

“I thought their ’keeper was outstanding, he obviously managed to keep the score down. We had a few big chances, especially at the start of the second half. But 1-0, a pleasing night, a massive three points for us and now we move on.”

Robertson added: “That’s where results start. Too many times this season we’ve had to score three goals to win games and stuff like that and you can’t keep doing that.

“At the start of the season we were doing that well and still winning the games but that’s not sustainable. It’s sustainable when you win games with clean sheets and win 1-0 or 2-0 and things like that.

“Of course, you’re going to concede goals now and again but it’s about having that control and I think we’ve got that back in the last two games. It’s important now that we have to be consistent: that was the message today before the game, we need the consistency back in the game, and I think we really brought that.

“But we’ve got another massive game on Sunday and it’s going to be tough. We’ve put a lot into this week already and it’s going to be difficult, but we obviously go there with more confidence than we had last week so that’s pleasing.”
