Andy Robertson has called for consistency from Liverpool after the Reds picked up their second successive win and clean sheet against Real Madrid.
Arne Slot’s side was back to its best against the 15-time European champions on Tuesday as it picked up a 1-0 win at Anfield. Alexis Mac Allister’s second half header decided the game, although in truth, it could have been a lot more comfortable for Liverpool had it not been for Thibaut Courtois.
After a dismal run of six defeats in seven games, the Reds finally look as though they could be back on track, with Slot having reverted to a more familiar line-up in the last two games following last season’s title triumph.
The change has seen a major improvement in fortunes, with the wins over Aston Villa and Real resulting in just Liverpool’s third and fourth clean sheets of the season.
Robertson’s return to the side at left-back has played a role in that, as has Conor Bradley’s return to form, with the Northern Ireland international lauded for his performance against Madrid after keeping Vinicius Jr quiet throughout.
Liverpool’s vice-captain though insists this can only be the start, and the Reds need to keep their solid run going if they’re to get their title defense back on track.
“That’s where results start. Too many times this season we’ve had to score three goals to win games and stuff like that and you can’t keep doing that,” Robertson told the club’s website.
“At the start of the season we were doing that well and still winning the games but that’s not sustainable. It’s sustainable when you win games with clean sheets and win 1-0 or 2-0 and things like that.
“Of course, you’re going to concede goals now and again but it’s about having that control and I think we’ve got that back in the last two games.

“It’s important now that we have to be consistent: that was the message today before the game, we need the consistency back in the game, and I think we really brought that.
“But we’ve got another massive game on Sunday and it’s going to be tough. We’ve put a lot into this week already and it’s going to be difficult, but we obviously go there with more confidence than we had last week so that’s pleasing.”
Liverpool does indeed face another tough encounter this weekend as it travels to the Etihad to take on Manchester City.
Both sides have ground to make up on current leader Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta’s side sitting six points clear at the top of the table and having looked in impervious form in recent weeks.
