‘Annoyed’ Jermaine Jenas wants to see Tottenham avoid their previous mistake at Arsenal

Jermaine Jenas admits that one thing about Tottenham’s performances at Emirates has annoyed him of late.

Tottenham travel to their rivals’ home ground looking to dent Arsenal’s title prospects and get themselves back into the top four.

Spurs have some key players back for the North London derby, but they will know that they have to be at their best to get a result at the Emirates Stadium.

The Lilywhites have not won a Premier League game in the rival’s home ground for 15 years, and one former Tottenham man believes that is down to their mentality when they visit the red half of North London.

Jermaine Jenas issues a warning to Tottenham

Some pundits have said that playing the North London derby away from home suits Spurs, given their contrasting form at home and away this season.

However, Jenas has opined that over recent years, Tottenham sides have gone to Arsenal with no belief or hope of competing with the Gunners.

Speaking on the Wildcards Podcast, Jenas said: “I’ll tell you one thing that’s really annoyed me about Spurs and about the last four or five fixtures at the Emirates.

“They go there like it’s a fun day out. They turn up and they’re like, oh, we’ll pop it around and everyone have a nice little touch of the ball. I’m looking at the game thinking it’s like, you lot have never seen a North London Derby before.

“Arsenal always just seem to get that first, that first corner, that first action in the game that lights the place up.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what Thomas Frank brings to the table and how he sets up his team to nullify that. Because I think that Spurs away from home, they can do the frustration thing, they can frustrate teams. So I’m hoping he does that.”

Spurs have competed at the Emirates over the last few years

In the 2023-24 season, Tottenham got a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium and were the better side for large parts of the encounter.

While Arteta’s men emerged 2-1 winners at home against Spurs in January of this year, Spurs held their own in that game as well, despite having several key players missing.

The idea that Tottenham have not competed at Arsenal recently is untrue, but there is no doubt that Thomas Frank’s men will have to play out of their skins to get a result tomorrow.
