Anthony Gordon once again finds himself being linked with a transfer to Liverpool - and a move to Anfield would see him follow in the footsteps of two of his soccer heroes.
The 25-year-old is no stranger to transfer speculation, especially when it comes to Liverpool. Gordon has been regularly linked with a move back to Merseyside for the past couple of years now, having come close to joining the Reds back in 2024.
Liverpool itself pulled the plug on that deal, having not wanted to part with Jarell Quansah at the time, but the opportunity may well arise this summer at a time when a new winger could be high on the list of priorities.

Although Bayern Munich and Arsenal are suggested as options, it is also claimed that the England international would “jump” at the chance to move to Liverpool.
Although Gordon did previously play for Everton, he did grow up as a Liverpool fan, and started out at the Reds’ academy before moving over to the Blue side of the city.
Gordon has made no secret of his support for Liverpool since the prospect of him moving back to Merseyside emerged two years ago, and he has spoken openly of the fact that two of his idols are both Reds legends.

“Steven Gerrard was my football hero growing up,” Gordon told The Overlap in 2024. “Coming from Liverpool, he was like a God in Liverpool, and he was an unbelievable player.”
And Gerrard isn’t the only Liverpool icon admired by Gordon, with the winger having also explained how he has taken inspiration from Mohamed Salah.
“My confidence comes from my preparation. I don't know where it comes from, I wouldn't say anyone around me is anything like that. I just love learning stuff, and throughout my years growing up, I've taken a liking to learning about psychology.

“There may be people who do the same thing as me, there may be loads who just haven't spoken about it.
“Some footballers like to think less, just turn up and play and trust their instincts. I just love the mindset of getting myself in that place before I'm already there.
“I saw Mo Salah talk about it — that's where I took even more interest, because I see him as an absolute machine and a winner. People like that, you're not going to go too far wrong following what they do.”

Gordon eyeing up a move away from Newcastle may come at an ideal time for Liverpool, should the Reds choose to rekindle their interest from two years ago.
With Salah leaving this summer, and Hugo Ekitike now likely to miss the start of next season through injury, Liverpool could well be in the market for a new forward.
Having had to fight hard to secure Alexander Isak’s signing last summer though, a move for Gordon might prove to be even more complicated, even if Newcastle has no European football to fall back on next season.
