Archie Gray’s outstanding display on Wednesday was not just recognised by Tottenham fans and his teammates, but also by the opposition.
Gray has been coming into his own recently, with the 20-year-old now starting to fulfil the promise that many thought he always had.
In some ways, one can argue that it was a coming-of-age performance for the Leeds academy graduate in the second leg against Atletico, as he dominated the midfield battle.
Not only did the youngster’s athleticism, physicality and pace mean that he was first to most lose balls, but he showed tremendous quality and decision-making in possession.

Marcos Llorente acknowledged Tottenham midfielder Archie Gray for a brilliant performance
Igor Tudor showered praise on Archie Gray following Tottenham’s win over Atletico, admitting that the midfielder’s combination of physical, mental and technical attributes makes him special.
It turns out that the Spurs youngster also got his dues from the opposition when he came off for Conor Gallagher on 82 minutes.
Atletico star Marcos Llorente went out of his way to run over to Gray just to shake his hand as the Tottenham man was substituted off. It’s clear the Spurs starlet made a big impression on his opponents.
Gray has expressed his commitment to Spurs
According to reports, Gray is on the radar of some of the biggest clubs in Europe, and it is not hard to understand why, as the youngster’s potential is immense.
However, it has been claimed by some sources that Gray has told Spurs he is ready to stay even if they get relegated this season.
That is the sort of commitment that has led many Spurs fans to believe that the 20-year-old is a future Tottenham captain.
