Pressure is building on Liverpool boss Arne Slot after another defeat — but will the former Feyenoord boss still be in charge of the Reds after this season ends?

Liverpool suffered another setback on Tuesday, losing 1-0 to Galatasaray in Istanbul.
Mario Lemina's early goal was the difference between the two teams, who will meet again at Anfield in six days' time. The Reds are now in danger of an early exit from the Champions League, while their hopes of winning the FA Cup look heinous following the quarterfinal draw, which pitted them against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City at the Etihad.
Liverpool is also at risk of missing out on Champions League soccer next season. The Reds are sixth in the Premier League table, level on points with Chelsea in fifth and three points adrift of fourth-placed Aston Villa.

The Reds were supposed to be the favorites for the Premier League title after investing around $600 million on new talent last summer. Instead, they are 19 points behind first-placed Arsenal.
It begs the question — should Arne Slot lose his job as a result of Liverpool's underwhelming season? Liverpool.com's writers have had their say on the matter...

Slot has made mistakes this season, no doubt, but not everything is on him. Getting into the Champions League, though, is the minimum requirement.
Liverpool has a very tough tie in the FA Cup quarterfinals and is also on the hard side of the Champions League knockout phase. Because of some bad luck, the chances of the Reds picking up silverware have substantially decreased.

But while it doesn't bring a trophy, qualifying for the Champions League is of the utmost importance. Financially, and also due to its prestige, missing out would be a massive blow.
For me, if Liverpool finishes this season by getting into the top five spots in the Premier League and shows a few more signs of heading in the right direction, that can be harnessed ahead of preseason. Momentum ahead of next term is key.
By that point, Slot needs more pace in his attack — buying two top-class wingers in the summer is a must — and without that, there is only so much he can do. With this same group of players, I'm not sure anyone would have Liverpool playing as fans want to see.
Having won the Premier League title last season before overseeing a campaign where his roster has been left light in key areas, Slot deserves another go next year with the tools to play the game as he really wants.

I think Slot's time at Liverpool is coming to an end.
Expectations were high after a record-breaking summer and winning the Premier League, but it has been a poor title defense from the Reds, which I think both the players and the head coach are to blame for.
I think even if Liverpool manages to secure Champions League next season, something needs to change because the Reds can’t go through another season playing badly yet somehow managing to scrape by.
At this point, I don’t think winning silverware will even save his job unless the Reds somehow win the Champions League, which, after the performance against Galatasaray, looks unlikely too.

Truthfully, I find it almost farcical that we’re back to this point so quickly, with calls for Slot to go.
No one thinks the Liverpool head coach has had a great second campaign at Anfield — but there are several mitigating factors to consider, most notably the grief his team continues to contend with following the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.
It’s also indisputable that this version of Liverpool has vastly improved from the side of November, which lost nine out of 12. If Slot survived that period, he should certainly be given time to address the current situation.
The Reds remain flaky, with too many performances still falling short of expectations. Slot must be given until the end of the season to try and refine those displays; then a decision should be made this summer — not before.

Slot needs something special to keep his job. Yes, the Reds didn't get their recruitment right last summer — having failed to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold and bring in enough depth at center-back — and yes, Slot has been unlucky this season with injuries.
But the buck stops with the manager, especially one who is failing to get the best out of his resources. Why Rio Ngumoha isn't one of the first names on the teamsheet is baffling; Liverpool goes from lethargic to energetic whenever he's on the pitch. Slot's reluctance to play Ngumoha is just one example of him failing to find the right solution to the problem.
With glory in both the FA Cup and Champions League looking unlikely, Slot surely needs a top-five finish to keep his job. And with his team failing to string more than a few wins together, that may not happen. A managerial change this summer feels inevitable.
