Arne Slot has confirmed Alexander Isak will train on Friday ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash against Manchester City.
The striker has not played for the Reds since October 22, when he was forced off at half-time in the Champions League win over Eintracht Frankfurt. He has subsequently missed four matches, but could be back in time for Sunday's trip to Manchester.
Isak was called up to the Sweden squad earlier this week, while Slot said ahead of the Real Madrid match that the ex-Newcastle United man could be in line to feature against City, but would not start.
Speaking in Friday's press conference, the Liverpool head coach said he is expecting Isak to be back in training for the first time since coming off against Frankfurt.
"He will train with the team for the first time today after being three weeks out. I know I said three weeks ago his pre-season was ended, so now we have to see where he is.
"If you are three week only with the rehab that doesn’t bring him back to the levels he was three weeks ago. You cannot compare rehab with games of football or training with the team. So, again I have to say give him some time."
Isak is still searching for his first Premier League goal for the Reds since his record-breaking deadline-day move. The 26-year-old has scored just once in eight appearances but is yet to complete 90 minutes for Liverpool.
Slot also confirmed he expects Andy Robertson to be available after starting three games in the space of seven days. "Let’s see where he is today," said the Dutchman.
The Reds will also be without Alisson, Jeremie Frimpong and Giovanni Leoni, while Mateo Kovacic is the only City player definitely ruled out of Sunday's game.
Slot revealed in Friday's press conference that he is expecting Alisson to be available for Liverpool's first match after the international break, but said Frimpong's recovery could take a little longer.
