Arne Slot has been questioned for seemingly revealing Liverpool's weaknesses in the wake of the recent defeat by Manchester United.
The Reds are currently on a four-game losing run in the Premier League, and the third defeat in that run came at home to United earlier this month. Slot said that his team found it tough to deal with how United set up on the day: "It is always difficult to play against a team that defends in a low block and mainly plays the long ball," Slot said.
Slot's admission raised eyebrows as he effectively disclosed one of his team's weaknesses, giving other opposition teams the blueprint to cause Liverpool problems in future games.
"Why would you put that out as a manager?" former West Ham captain Nigel Reo-Coker asked.
"I think he made a big mistake publicly as a manager to say something like that because you are letting every other club that you are going to come up against know your weaknesses, know what you don't like, and they will now play that way."
Liverpool was beaten by another team that played plenty of long balls on Saturday, as the Reds went down 3-2 to Brentford in west London.
The Reds now sit seventh in the Premier League table, having sat in first position a matter of weeks ago.
After the game, Slot said that it was one of the most disappointing performances he had seen from his team since taking charge last year.
Asked why Liverpool's form is so poor in comparison to last year, Slot responded: "I have said many times already, teams have a certain playing style against us, which is a very good strategy to play and we haven't found an answer yet.
"Every time going 1-0 down doesn't really help as well after five minutes. It's a bit of that, that teams know which strategy to play against us.
"We are still, even today when we don't play well, able to score two goals and create more chances than only the two we scored from open play.
"But you cannot even compete, which we don't do at the moment, we don't compete up there because we simply concede too many goals and that is not something I only look at our defence [for], that's something we do with 11 players together."
He added: "It definitely also has to do with if you change quite a lot in the summer then I think it's not a surprise that it can go a bit like this.
"But I didn't expect it to go with four losses in a row, let that be clear."
