The 37-year-old, who joined Liverpool's coaching staff along with Slot in 2024, parted ways with the club early this week following the diabolical set-piece record this season

Arne Slot has thanked Aaron Briggs for his contribution to Liverpool’s Premier League title success, just days after he and the club parted ways.
Briggs joined Slot’s coaching staff at Anfield when the Dutchman replaced Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2024, and took up the reins of set-piece coach in September 2025.
However, the Reds have struggled in that department this term, and no side in Europe’s top-five leagues has conceded more goals from set-pieces than Liverpool’s 12. After Wolverhampton Wanderers netted from a corner at Anfield last week, the axe fell on Briggs, whose departure was announced on Tuesday.

“First of all, I want to thank him for the one and a half years we worked together because he's been a big part of us winning the league last year.
“He's been a big help to me. He's a very good human being, a very promising, young English coach. But as things sometimes happen in January and June, both happen either way and that's what happened over here as well.

“He will definitely find a new challenge for himself because he's done a good job for us, he's a very good human being and a very promising, good English coach and should deserve to get multiple chances again.”
The search is now on for Briggs’ replacement, with Etienne Reijnen, who Slot worked with at Feyenoord, being linked with the role. However, the Liverpool head coach was giving little away when asked about the club’s plans.
“I think it would be a surprise to you that we never talk about players we bring in and start talking about different names in terms of coaches we could bring in.
“Of course, we are looking at the situation, what is best for us now but as long as I have no news about that, I cannot share any.”
