A video of Liverpool fans singing Xabi Alonso's name while leaving the Etihad on Saturday has gone viral.
The Reds were thumped 4-0 by Manchester City in their FA Cup quarterfinal. After a decent opening to the game, Arne Slot's players collapsed against the hosts. Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick for City, while Antoine Semenyo also got on the scoresheet.
The result means Liverpool's final chance to win silverware this season is in the Champions League, with Slot's players facing a daunting two-legged affair with Paris Saint-Germain. The Reds are fifth in the Premier League table and out of the title race.

And it appears some of those supporters made their feelings known on Saturday.
A video has emerged on social media, appearing to show Reds fans chanting Alonso's name as they flooded out of the Etihad.
"Xabi Alonso, Mohamed Sissoko, (Steven) Gerrard and (Javier) Mascherano... we've got the best midfield in the world," the chant goes.
If the video footage is indeed from Saturday as claimed, it's clear why those fans were chanting Alonso's name. The Spaniard is widely regarded as one of the best young managers in Europe after guiding Bayer Leverkusen to the Bundesliga title in 2024.
Alonso is currently a free agent after leaving Real Madrid, and many Liverpool fans want to see him replace Slot after the Dutchman's disappointing season.
The Reds are not expected to make any managerial change in the immediate future, but they may be compelled to start considering their options if they fail to win this season's Champions League and qualify for next term's tournament.
Those Liverpool fans leaving the Etihad may have also been chanting for Gerrard to take over at Anfield. The legendary midfielder is without a club and has previously made no secret of his desire to help out Liverpool should the club's hierarchy come calling.
"I've got a brilliant connection with the club, I always have," Gerrard recently told Stick to Football. "Probably a stronger connection since I left, they've always been unbelievable.
"Any help or area I could help the club in, obviously, I'd try and do it if I could. But I suppose what you want to know is, do I want to manage Liverpool at some point in my life?"
"Of course, that would be a dream, but I think — would I be ready for it right now, to take it over a long period of time? Probably not.
"But is there a possibility in the future to be alongside someone, them elite managers that you talk about."
