Arne Slot has been advised that Mohamed Salah should retain his position in the Liverpool starting XI, regardless of his current form. The Egyptian striker has endured an inconsistent campaign this season after his remarkable previous year's performance.
He has managed five goals across 16 appearances in all competitions, a stark contrast to his phenomenal 34-goal haul last term. Whilst some have suggested that Liverpool manager Slot should give Salah a breather, former Reds player Don Hutchinson holds a different view.
He has proposed that the forward should only be withdrawn from the team when circumstances dictate during the African Cup of Nations.
Speaking to TEAMtalk, Hutchinson explained: "I would be very tempted to play all three from now to the end of the season and play their way into form, into goals, into chemistry, into improving the league position.
"I know it's a big jump from now to the end of season, but that will be Liverpool's team and individuals going forward. That's what I would look at.
"So the uncomfortable conversation is around why and how you don't get Mo Salah into that team anymore. Perhaps the Africa Cup of Nations would be the time to try it!"
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has previously expressed his views on Salah's form and insisted it was not a major worry. Speaking last month, the Dutchman remarked: "The main thing is that he always has scored goals for Liverpool.
"The last thing I worry about is Mo scoring goals again. He's done that his entire life and I expect him to do that again in the upcoming weeks and months."
Salah is presently on international duty with Egypt, but Friday's friendly against Uzbekistan proved challenging as the Pharaohs suffered a 2-0 defeat.

The Liverpool forward's first opportunity to regain his domestic form will be next weekend when Nottingham Forest visit Anfield.
Liverpool, like Salah, has had a rocky start to the new season. The current champions are eighth in the Premier League table after losing five of their first 11 matches - the latest being a 3-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
However, Liverpool's Champions League campaign has started more positively, with three wins from their first four group stage matches.
