Arsenal host Bayern Munich in the Champions League at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday evening

Vincent Kompany has conceded that Bayern Munich have a problem defending set-pieces and that could play into the hands of Arsenal's analysts and set-piece coach Nicolas Jover.

The two European heavyweights are preparing to trade blows at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League on Wednesday night and both sides head into the contest in rip-roaring form.

Arsenal are currently six points clear at the top of the Premier League and they also boast 100 per cent records in both Europe and the Carabao Cup, respectively.

Meanwhile, Bayern are also six points clear at the Bundesliga summit and additionally, they sit top of the Champions League group phase standings with four wins from four.

The German champions are scoring goals for fun and defensively, only Arsenal, Roma (both six) and Como (seven) have conceded less goals domestically than Bayern's eight inside Europe's top-five leagues.

However, six of those eight goals have come via set-pieces, one of Arsenal's greatest assets under Mikel Arteta.

Interestingly though, 11 of Arsenal's past 13 goals in all competitions have come from open play and they have not scored from a dead-ball situation in the Premier League since Viktor Gyokeres' opener at Burnley on November 1.

Kompany though insists Bayern are well aware of their defensive frailty after they battled back from 2-0 down against Freiburg on Saturday in the Bundesliga to win 6-2.

The Belgian said of the issue: "You can't hide it, everyone saw it. Arsenal's analysts will see it too. We have to show personality, character and defend those things. But I have confidence in our side.

"I'm calm. We made mistakes in these phases as a team. We shouldn't hide, we should show personality and character to defend them. We're also a good team in attacking set pieces, we scored from a corner today.

"We just have to stay calm and work to get out of this phase and show that we're also good in this department. I have confidence that we'll solve it."

The two goals Bayern conceded away in the 2-2 draw away to Union Berlin before the international break also came from set-pieces.

Arguably Arsenal's greatest asset from corners and free-kicks, Gabriel Magalhaes, remains sidelined with a thigh issue but 10 of their 24 Premier League goals have still come from dead-balls.

Kompany is under no illusions that Arsenal remain the benchmark in that department, stating ahead of the trip to north London: "They're the best team in Europe at set pieces.

"I think it's a good challenge. I don't know if there are many better teams than Arsenal in Europe at the moment. We're looking forward to the game."
