Arsenal have found some form while Liverpool have faltered after both clubs' heavy spending in the summer transfer window
Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal have the "most complete squad" as the Gunners look to win their first piece of silverware since 2020. Mikel Arteta lifted the FA Cup in his first season in charge but major trophies have alluded the Spaniard since.
Since that FA Cup win over Chelsea, however, Arteta has turned Arsenal into domestic and European contenders. The Kroenke family have invested heavily in the playing squad and over the summer more than £260million was spent on fresh talent with Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera, Viktor Gyokeres, Eberechi Eze and Piero Hincapie all joining the Gunners.
Liverpool also spent big in the summer transfer window, with huge deals for Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike contributing to their £450million spend. Wenger has now had his say on the two squads, with the legendary Frenchman insisting the Gunners have a more "complete squad" than the reigning Premier League champions.
Asked whether he viewed Arsenal as title contenders, Wenger told beIN SPORTS: "Yes, without any hesitation. You might say that I say that every year but I believe this year they are really equipped to deal with any problems.
"When they lost Kai Havertz and Bukayo Saka last season it was too much but this year you have [Noni] Madueke, [Eberechi] Eze, [Gabriel] Martinelli, [Leandro] Trossard. At the back they have [Cristhian] Mosquera, down the flanks and at the back they have replacements. [Myles] Lewis-Skelly doesn’t get in the team at the moment and he’s an England international.
"I think they have the most complete squad. Compare them with Liverpool, I watched them against Chelsea and [Dominik] Szoboszlai was at right-back and [Ryan] Gravenberch was centre back. Arsenal would not be in that kind of position."
Liverpool have lost to Crystal Palace, Galatasaray, Chelsea and Manchester United in their last four games but Wenger insists Arne Slot must "give players time". He said: "The players have the talent, Isak has the talent and Wirtz has the talent. But of course at the moment they have not reached their level. Maybe they have to go through a tough period, show total commitment to the team and then the confidence will come back."
