Aston Villa steal a march on Tottenham for title-winner with 44 caps for Germany

Tottenham Hotspur are now at risk of falling behind their Premier League rivals in the race for a six-time title winner.

As the January transfer window draws closer, one Tottenham Hotspur star’s long-term future at the club appears to be up in the air.

Reports indicate that Spurs have started looking for potential replacements for Guglielmo Vicario, and a Barcelona star is thought to be one of the names on the Lilywhites’ wishlist.

Tottenham are reportedly eyeing a move for Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has now fallen behind Joan Garcia in Hansi Flick’s pecking order at Camp Nou.

Last week, a report in Sport suggested that even though Besiktas, Bologna, and Ajax have expressed an interest in the Barca star, Ter Stegen is waiting for an approach from Spurs.

This was because the 33-year-old prefers moving to the Premier League, but Tottenham’s pursuit of the goalkeeper may have just got a lot harder.

A new report in Radio Marca claims that Aston Villa have now initiated contact with Ter Stegen ahead of the January window.

The report suggests that Unai Emery values the German goalkeeper’s experience and sees him as an option to replace Emiliano Martinez, who has been linked with a move away from Villa Park.

Chances of January Ter Stegen transfer played down

While Radio Marca seem to suggest that the Barca star is on his way out, one journalist disagrees.

Just a few days ago, Dean Jones suggested that Tottenham target Ter Stegen is not in a hurry to leave Camp Nou in January.

Jones also pointed out that covering the former Borussia Monchengladbach man’s high salary may be an issue for the North London club.
