Atalanta sporting director denies ever being interested in Milan role: “Never for a day”

There was a need to find a new sporting director this summer, and AC Milan eventually decided to move for Igli Tare.

Whether this was their own decision, though, can certainly be questioned. Of course, Milan had initially gone for Tare, and then Giorgio Furlani led a chase for several other candidates inside the sporting director market.

In fact, Fabio Paratici was expected to get the job. However, issues with him led the club to look to others, including Giovanni Sartori and Tony D’Amico. Though it seemed like the latter was more favoured.

D’Amico’s rejection

Talks with D’Amico were constant, with Furlani repeatedly making attempts to bring the Atalanta sporting director to Milano. However, they were never successful, and eventually Tare was hired, after a few months wasted.

Today, the director of the Bergamese outfit has spoken to Gazzetta dello Sport (via Calciomercato.com) about the links and his feelings on the position. However, his reply was rather blunt, leaving nothing open to interpretation.

“I’ve read too much: I’ve certainly never felt, not even for a day, outside of Atalanta.”
