AC Milan signed Zachary Athekame in the late stages of the window, and there have certainly been criticisms.
It is important to note that the opposition to the Athekame move is not against him, far from it. If anything, his signing represents promise in a rather large manner. Instead, it is against his need, at least for now.
Rather than signing an experienced, solid right back, Milan have taken a risk on someone who has just had a great season in Switzerland. Had another option arrived too, perhaps, there would be praise for the move.
Ultimately, though, he arrives with a lot of pressure on performances, given that he is the only real candidate for right-back there, which is a bit unfair.

Athekame’s knowledge
That is not deterring him, and he is well aware of the challenges in place, as well as what he must do to get a place in the team, as he told Blick.ch at the Swiss U21 National Team camp, as MilanPress relays.
The leap from the Swiss league to the Italian one…
“It’s all really very different. You realise that Switzerland, without disrespect, is small compared to real football countries. In Italy, you see the greatness and the impact football has on people. It’s a different world.”
The bench…
“It’s my job to give my all in training to earn my place. I don’t put pressure on myself, I stay calm.”
Saying yes to Milan…
“It was impossible to turn down AC Milan. It’s Milan, everyone knows the history of this club. It’s an honour for me to be here. Knowing that the Rossoneri were interested in my performances was very emotional. But we have to keep a clear head. I’m very happy, and now I’m focusing on my work.”
