The pieces may be falling into place for AC Milan to get Jean-Philippe Mateta, was Crystal Palace seem to have found his replacement.

La Gazzetta dello Sport spoke this morning about the time pressures when it comes to getting the Mateta deal done. He will either arrive before the 20:00 CET deadline tomorrow or in the summer, but a replacement is needed for the green light to come.

Pieces falling into place?

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, Wolverhampton Wanderers have now accepted a bid from Crystal Palace for Jorgen Strand Larsen. It is an offer of £43m fixed plus £5m in bonuses, so a total package potentially worth €55m.

The report adds that ‘Milan remain working on a deal to sign Jean-Philippe Mateta’ before the transfer deadline on Monday. He is not pat of the Palace squad to face Nottingham Forest, with Oliver Glasner stating he is ‘not in the right place to play’.

Ironically, Larsen is actually a former member of Milan’s youth academy, having played up to Primavera level in the late 2010s. Now, it could be that he helps his old club land the No.9 they seem willing to invest in.

In a separate article on Mateta, The Athletic write: “A deal for Mateta rests on whether the clubs can agree a fee and the timing of any move, as well as potential departures from Milan before the window closes. Palace would also seek to replace the Frenchman, and have been in talks over a deal for Aston Villa’s Evann Guessand.”
