AC Milan midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek has received a late call-up to the England side from Thomas Tuchel for the September fixtures.

Several English midfielders can stake claims to be within the National Team squad, but there is certainly a case that Loftus-Cheek could be an influential choice for Tuchel, as he looks to test the waters of his National Team pool.

Loftus-Cheek for England

The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports that a chance has been given to the Milan midfielder, due to an injury suffered by Adam Wharton during this weekend’s fixture against Aston Villa. Though the FA has yet to communicate that he has been withdrawn from the team.

Loftus-Cheek, then, has been called up by his former coach at Chelsea, and the pair spent a few months together before the German was sacked from the London club. It is set to be his first call-up since 2019. However, he will be looking for his first minutes since November 2018.

England face Andorra and Serbia this month, so the midfielder will hope to be given a chance to prove himself on a national stage once again. A huge chance to potentially continue getting things back on track after his first goal of the season at the weekend.
