Athletic: Mateta undergoing medical with AC Milan – deal ‘in excess of €30m’ agreed

Crystal Palace striker Jean-Phillipe Mateta is currently undergoing a medical ahead of a move to AC Milan, reports claim.

The links with Mateta have intensified in the past few days, but the deal was dependant on Crystal Palace finding a replacement. They have now got a deal done for Jorgen Strand Larsen with Wolves, so the green light for Mateta to join the Rossoneri has arrived.

According to The Athletic, Mateta is undergoing a medical today having been left out of Crystal Palace’s squad to face Nottingham Forest, with manager Oliver Glasner having made the call not to use him.

Initially, Palace were hoping for a figure closer to £40m in order to sell the Frenchman, but it is believed that the final figure agreed with Milan is ‘in excess of €30m’. Mateta has scored nine goals in 33 league games for Palace this season, and will leave with 56 goals for the Eagles.

Nottingham Forest made a bid worth £35m (around €40m) to sign Mateta, but ultimately the player’s desire to join Milan won. It is not entirely clear where the 28-year-old is doing his medical, but with over 24 hours of the window remaining, there should be enough time to get things over the line.
