Bari head coach Fabio Caserta believes that AC Milan will fight for the Scudetto after his side were knocked out of the Coppa Italia by them.

Although Milan dominated the game in terms of the balance of play and chances created, Bari far from disgraced themselves in the end and they even forced Mike Maignan into a couple of saves.

However, Rafael Leao was the man who took the acclaim of scoring the first goal of the new campaign when he headed in a Fikayo Tomori cross in the first half to settle the nerves. Christian Pulisic was the player who got the second goal early in the second half to kill the tie.

There was a run-out for a couple of new signings too in Luka Modric and Ardon Jashari, and it was a case of job well done for the Rossoneri in their season opener in front of over 71,000 fans.

Caserta spoke to reporters inside the press conference room at San Siro after the full-time whistle to offer his thoughts on the game, with his comments via MilanNews.

How did you view the game?

“Milan are a clearly superior team to us. We tried, I’m happy.”

Verreth is back with the team after his tragedy

“These have been difficult days, for him, for his family, and for us. He went 10 days without training: the minute of silence was emotional and touching. These have not been easy days.”

Was it a good starting point?

“There’s a lot of work to do: a new team, new staff. You need time and patience: the season is very long. There’s still a lot of work to do, there are many new players.

“Today I saw a team with character. I saw that we didn’t give Milan too much on the counter-attack, we didn’t overdo it. I see great potential in the team. I think Rao can do very well.”

How do you think Dorval did?

“Mentally good, physically he struggled in the second half. Sibilli has above-average technical and physical qualities: he’s very good tactically, he’s very important for us. I would have liked to play today too. Their goals were credit to them, to a team that I think will fight for the Scudetto.”
