Baroni discusses Torino’s recent struggles and previews game against ‘great’ Milan

Ahead of the game between AC Milan and Torino, which is scheduled for Monday evening, Il Toro’s manager Marco Baroni spoke to the media at his press conference.

It’s been a rather mediocre start to the season for Torino, currently sitting in 13th place with 14 points collected. They haven’t won any of their last five games, drawing three and losing two, and the most recent defeat was against the struggling side Lecce.

On the other hand, they managed to beat Napoli and Roma 1-0 earlier in the season, while also holding Bologna and Juventus to draws. Monday’s clash against Milan is thus an opportunity for them to bounce back after a bit of a rough patch.

Speaking to the media at his pre-match presser, as transcribed by TMW, Baroni said that his side are working a lot on eliminating lapses of concentration. He also shared his thoughts on the fact that Torino have one of the worst goal differences in the league (-11).

Will we see a Torino without lapses of concentration?

“We’re working on it individually and as a team, believe me. We’re looking for consistency, we want to eliminate lapses of concentration. Milan are a great team, but I don’t want to limit ourselves to only focusing on the big teams.”

Will Zapata start?

“Definitely… He’s finding his best form day by day, but I still have to evaluate him given the length of the game.”

What went wrong against Lecce?

“We need to improve in the final meters, both offensively and defensively. It’s that meter and that ball that make the difference. There was the final miss from the penalty spot, but the team stayed strong and tried to get back on track. We need to start from there; the work we’re doing is focused on improving in the final meters.”

In the last 20 years, this is the worst Torino since Giampaolo and the worst defence…

“In difficult times, you either crumble or you get stronger. I’m used to trying to strengthen myself, pushing harder together with the team.”
