Davide Bartesaghi was nearly the hero for AC Milan in their game against Sassuolo this afternoon, but as it ended in a draw, the youngster was very disappointed afterwards.
As we highlighted in our key battles for the game, Bartesaghi and his overlapping runs were always going to be interesting against the Neroverdi. Sure enough, thanks to his runs, he managed to find the back of the net twice.
He was given the MOTM in our player ratings with an 8.5/10, way above his teammates, and it’s a shame he didn’t get to celebrate a win. After the game, speaking to DAZN (via MilanNews), you could tell that the 19-year-old was happy but also disappointed.
You become the youngest Milan defender to score since Paolo Maldini…
“I didn’t know that, I’m happy. I owe a lot to this team, to my teammates, and to the coach for their trust.”
Which was the more difficult goal between the two?
“The first goal. I had a lot of people in front of me, but I believed in it and reached the far post. Then I had the whole net open and I just had to get it in.”

What did your journey with Milan Futuro give you?
“It was very important, also for managing the pressure of bigger stadiums. Last year wasn’t so great, but you work even when things are difficult, and I think the improvements have emerged, and I’m happy about that.”
Can you tell us about the hug with Corradi and Magnanelli after the goals?
“It’s a shame they didn’t help much in getting the three points, but that hug there… I owe a lot to those two, especially to Coach Corradi, who was also my coach in the national team. The other day, he asked me, ‘When are you going to score a goal?’ We hugged for that.”
Napoli are up next for Milan in the Supercoppa Italiana on Thursday, and Bartesaghi will surely play that game from start as well. It remains to be seen if that will end in disappointment too, or if the Rossoneri will make it through to the final.
