Bartesaghi talks about ‘opportunity’ with Italy U21s and looking up to Theo Hernandez

Davide Bartesaghi has admitted that Theo Hernandez is someone the he looks up to, or at least he used to do while he was at AC Milan.

Massimiliano Allegri has put his faith in Bartesaghi as the deputy on the left hand side of the defence. In essence, he will be the back-up to Pervis Estupinan but he could also provide cover for Strahinja Pavlovic too if needed.

He made his first Serie A start of the season on Sunday night, helping contribute to a clean sheet against Juventus. At just 19 years of age the future appears bright for Bartesaghi, and he is getting recognition on the international stage too.

Bartesaghi spoke to Mediaset while away with the Italy U21 national team and his comments were relayed by PianetaMilan.

How are you feeling during the break?

“I’m enjoying it, calm and with a clear head, which are two fundamental things. I have to keep working, I can grow and improve every day.”

Is it nice to have praise from Baldini and Allegri?

“I’m happy to hear their words, I thank them. On the pitch I always try to give my best . Then sometimes I put in better performances, sometimes worse. But I always try to give my best.”

Is this a big opportunity for you?

“A very important opportunity, but every game is crucial. We always need to play at our best, helping each other. We’re a good group and we’ll be able to win. It’s nice, it’s the shirt that represents us.

“I hope to wear it as much as possible, I’ll give my all for this jersey like all my team-mates. We got along well right away, we’re a good group, we laugh and joke, but when we step on the pitch we know what we have to do.”

What do you expect from the match against Sweden?

“We’ll try to study it over the next few days; it will be a physical and intense match, requiring intelligence. We need to enter the field calm and confident in our ability.”

Who do you look up to?

“It was Theo [Hernandez], now he’s no longer here and maybe I’ll look at Spinazzola a bit more. There’s a lot to learn, even if I want to have my own status.”
