If you ask Massimiliano Allegri if AC Milan can win the title this year, he would likely refer you to his goals of achieving a top-four finish. However, it is certainly on his mind.
Whenever he is asked, Allegri has always offered the same reply when it comes to the Scudetto. It may be in the corner of his eye, but he is not losing focus on the main goal for the season, which is a return to the Champions League.
From there, there can be considerations about pushing on. However, adjusting targets too soon could be massively consequential.
Saying that, though, the coach is keeping an eye on the Scudetto projections, and he referred to them earlier today.
Allegri’s maths
After Juventus played their final game of the ‘first half’ of the season, the coach was asked about the Scudetto race and MilanNews relayed his answer from his press conference earlier today.
“Juventus have finished the first leg matches… I think the Scudetto quota is 86-88, depending on how the first round will be closed. To get 86 or 88, who is at 36, must score 50 points in the return group, but Juve are a strong team and can do it.
“With Spalletti, he had a reversal of results and performances. We must get to ourselves and our goal: get to the top 4 in March or attack.

“Yesterday’s results show that it is complicated: we must stay with our feet on the ground, with great balance and face the games with great seriousness like the last two. Then the matches start 0-0, it’s not like we have any advantage because we are Milan.”
It is worth noting that Allegri predicted that between 86 and 90 points would be required for the title earlier this season. So this is proof that his quota has been refined, even if only slightly. Maybe it is more of a goal than is being made out…
