Bianchin explains why Allegri ‘prefers’ Vlahovic despite not being his favourite

Massimiliano Allegri has told the AC Milan management that he would prefer the signing of Dusan Vlahovic this summer, as opposed to experimental solutions.

Vlahovic has been heavily linked with a move to Milan this summer as it’s a chance to reunite with Allegri. Of course, the two worked together at Juventus and enjoyed some success, even though the Serbian has had his fair share of difficulties with the Bianconeri.

As his contract will expire next summer, while the salary is very high, Juventus are looking to get rid of the striker before the transfer window closes. Milan are keeping tabs on the situation and the Bianconeri could accept a lower transfer fee.

Allegri’s verdict is clear

In one of his latest editorials for Gazzetta dello Sport, the journalist Luca Bianchin discussed the potential Allegri-Vlahovic reunion. While the manager has other favourite strikers, the Serbian is the one he prefers for the time being.

“Vlahovic won’t change: at 25, he’s a well-rounded player, as demonstrated by his penalty-box touches. He can improve on the details, but his characteristics are clear: he moves just right and thrives in and around the penalty area.

“It’s no coincidence that Allegri gave him the thumbs up. Vlahovic may not be his favourite striker, in fact Max has had plenty of greats, but he prefers him to experimental options, untested in the Italian league.

“Allegri knows that Vlahovic isn’t the perfect striker; he could play more with the team and has technical limitations, but he knows him, he knows that Vlahovic knows where the goal is and has the physique to help the team move up the pitch.

“Vlahovic worked with Allegri for two and a half seasons, scoring 41 goals in the black and white stripes. That’s not a huge amount, but it’s not a small number either. Let’s put it this way: not many for a striker earning €8, €10, or €12 million a season, but still a regular double-digit tally in the league,” he wrote.
