Bierhoff reveals what Maldini told him about what he wants from next job: “Can have a say”

Paolo Maldini left AC Milan in 2023, and he has yet to find a new job in an executive sense, yet there remains a wish that he will return. 

Two years on, there still remains a feeling that Milan made a mistake sacking Maldini. However, it is largely influenced by the popularity of both parties. In the years since, the management’s stock has only dropped, whilst the legendary defender’s has remained high.

It has probably grown, truthfully, given that the Rossoneri have only regressed since he left. Of course, sometimes football is football, but with that decision, it always felt off. A summer where the Diavolo lost their identity for many,

Maldini’s request

Towards the end of last season, with the management being regularly hounded, there were calls for Maldini’s return. Since then, the calls have been quietened as Milan have strengthened in key departments. If the chance of a return was offered, though, most would probably accept.

Whether Maldini would, though, is another thing entirely, and Oliver Bierhoff revealed what the legend wants from his next role to La Stampa via MilanPress.

“I talk to Paolo every now and then. People like him are needed everywhere. I even advised him to become a national team manager, like I did. But working in the federations isn’t easy. Maldini said he’d like to, but he only wants to work where he can have a say in decisions and leave his mark .”
