Bournemouth 'sets huge Antoine Semenyo asking price' amid Liverpool transfer links

1 week ago 38

Bournemouth has set a huge asking price for its 25-year-old winger Antoine Semenyo, with Liverpool among the clubs to be following the progress of the Ghanaian on the south coast.

Manchester United and Tottenham both looked at Semenyo during the summer window but he ended up staying put and signing a new contract. Under Andoni Iraola, the forward has netted six times already this season, in addition to setting up three goals for his teammates.

The Daily Mail reports that Liverpool and several other sides are keeping an eye on Semenyo. The player is rumored to have a release clause, and Bournemouth would want more than $100 million (£75 million).

Given that they sold players like Dean Huijsen and Iliya Zubarnyi during the summer window, plus Milos Kerkez, who signed for Liverpool for around $54 million (£40 million), the Cherries are under no pressure to cash in.

However, there will be an acceptance that Semenyo could be allowed to move on if a bigger club comes in for him. Bournemouth has not stood in the way of others moving on, realizing its place in the pecking order.

Only Erling Haaland has scored more goals than Semenyo in the Premier League this season. He has really kicked on and hit another level after being slightly inconsistent in front of goal in previous campaigns.

Antoine Semenyo celebrates

Antoine Semenyo has been in blistering form this season

On the opening day of the new Premier League season, Semenyo scored a brace at Anfield against Liverpool. The Reds won the game 4-2 but he was an impressive performer.

Equally comfortable on either the left or the right wing, he would also offer plenty of versatility for any potential suitor.

At Liverpool, Semenyo could provide competition for both Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, with question marks hanging over the latter's performances in the early part of the season.

Over the past two seasons, Semenyo has proven to be very two-footed, taking 71 shots with his left and 62 with his right.

Off the ball, no player in the Premier League has won the ball back more frequently in the final third so far this season. Under Arne Slot, that would be a big asset.

"His mindset is one of the biggest things that he has going for him," former coach at Bristol City, where Semenyo played before signing for Bournemouth, Dean Holden, told Sky Sports.

"He is just so balanced. He does not get bogged down by missing a chance or giving the ball away. Just watch him next time you see him, his reactions to stuff. He is fantastic."
