BREAKING: Chelsea suffer Enzo Fernandez injury boost ahead of Champions League clash vs Ajax

1 week ago 52

Enzo Fernandez has returned to the Chelsea line-up for the Blues' Champions League clash against Ajax at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old midfielder withdrew from the Argentina squad during the international break due to a knee injury and missed Chelsea's win away at Nottingham Forest at the weekend. Enzo Maresca said on Tuesday afternoon that Fernandez's injury is not serious and not one to worry about, and he has now been named in the XI this evening.

"Enzo took part in the session yesterday [Monday]," Maresca explained. "We have one more session this afternoon [Tuesday], we see if we decide with him tomorrow. But as I said before and again, it was not something that we have to be worried about, it's just to try and protect Enzo."

Maresca has named a total of 10 changes to the side that won in Nottingham, with Romeo Lavia the only player keeping his place. Robert Sanchez has been named on the bench, with Filip Jorgensen deputising for the Spaniard. Sanchez had started both of Chelsea's Champions League fixtures up until this point but Jorgensen has now been given a chance.

Moises Caicedo looks set to start at right-back, with Tosin Adarabioyo, Wesley Fofana and Jorrel Hato the other defenders. Fernandez partners Lavia, while Estevao Willian makes his first Champions League start for the club.
