Liam Rosenior has been sacked as Chelsea head coach just three months after signing a six-and-a-half-year contract.
The 41-year-old, who replaced Enzo Maresca on January 6, departs the Blues after 23 matches in all competitions, where he recorded 10 victories, 10 defeats and three draws.
Of those 10 defeats, seven have come in the last eight games - with five of those in the Premier League - and BlueCo, the club's ownership group led by Behdad Eghbali, have decided to part company with Rosenior.
The decision has been made ahead of the Blues' FA Cup semi-final with Leeds United on Sunday. Chelsea's hierarchy held talks on Wednesday over Rosenior's future at the club and decided it was best to dismiss him from his role.
A statement from the club read: "Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Liam Rosenior.
On behalf of everyone at Chelsea FC, we would like to place on record our gratitude to Liam and his staff for all their efforts during their time with the Club.
"Liam has always conducted himself with the highest integrity and professionalism following his appointment mid-way through the season.
"This has not been a decision the Club has taken lightly, however recent results and performances have fallen below the necessary standards with still so much more to play for this season. Everyone at Chelsea FC wishes Liam every success in the future.
"Calum McFarlane will take charge of the team as Interim Head Coach until the end of the season with support from existing Club backroom staff, as we strive to achieve European qualification and progress in the FA Cup.
"As the Club works to bring stability to the Head Coach position, we will undertake a process of self-reflection to make the right long-term appointment."
BlueCo's initial plan was to review Rosenior's position at the end of the 2027/28 campaign but recent results changed everything.
Rosenior's final match as Chelsea head coach came at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday evening, where the Blues were dismantled 3-0 by Brighton in the Premier League. It was Chelsea’s fifth straight league loss without scoring for the first time since 1912.
In an extraordinary post-match press conference, Rosenior placed the blame on his players, as well as taking some of it himself.
"In the basics, in the pride that you should have in wearing the shirt, that was unacceptable," said the former Chelsea head coach. "I've defended the players and I am accountable - I've always said that.
"After tonight, I think the players as well need to have a look in the mirror for what they put in. You can talk about tactics, tactics come after the basics. Having more courage to play, winning duels, winning headers, tackles, conceding terrible goals. That was an unacceptable performance tonight."
