1 month ago 29

Manchester City's Champions League clash with Galatasaray was stopped as protestors stormed the pitch. Pep Guardiola's side were 2-0 up when the incident occurred and are on course to qualify automatically for the last 16.

The officials had to stop the play when several protestors made their way onto the Etihad Stadium surface, waving flags around. Security had to round up the protestors and take them off the pitch not long after the second half had restarted.

The protestors waved Kurdistan flags above their heads before being escorted off the field of play.

City are in a commanding position to qualify in a top-eight position, given their Champions League rivals were struggling elsewhere.

Erling Haaland scored the opener for the Premier League outfit after a brilliant through ball from Jeremy Doku in the 11th minute.

Rayan Cherki added a second after some good play from Doku again down the left-hand side of the pitch.

The winger cut the ball back into the path of the French playmaker, who made no mistake from just inside the 18-yard box just before the half-hour mark.

City know they need a win tonight to make it through to the last 16 automatically and Guardiola was fully focused on the game, calling on the Blues faithful to get behind his team.

"I prefer to have more [points] but it is what we deserve. We need to focus and try to win our game then see what position we finish,” Pep Guardiola said ahead of the game.

“We’ll see the result in the last 10 minutes and then we will see [what we have to do]. We have to focus on our game, that’s the key. We will try to win tomorrow.

"Galatasaray is leading the Turkish league and all their players are exceptional. The quality they have. Osimhen is a top-class player.

"They link with him. Leroy [Sane] and both wingers are so quick. Gundo, Lemina, are experienced players. Galatasaray are one of the biggest clubs and they always have good players.

“What I expect is people come tomorrow and support us.”
