BREAKING: Man City discover Champions League last 16 opponents as path to final confirmed

2 hours ago 5

Manchester City will play Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Blues secured a straight path into the knockout stages having finished eighth in the League Phase. That meant Pep Guardiola's men avoided the play-off round and guaranteed themselves a home second leg in next month's last-16 tie.

City knew they would face one of either Bodo/Glimt, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Benfica, and that quartet was narrowed to two after this week's play-offs. Bodo stunned Inter with a 2-1 victory in the San Siro to complete a 5-2 aggregate success while Madrid, who won 1-0 against Benfica in the first leg, secured their passage to the last-16 with a 2-1 second leg victory.

The last-16 fixture dates have yet to be confirmed and City's Premier League trip to West Ham, currently scheduled for 12.30pm, will move to an 8pm kick off if the Blues are away in Europe on the Wednesday before.

The last-16 ties take place next month with the first leg on March 10/11 and the second a week later. City, by virtue of finishing higher in the League Phase, will be at home in the second leg.
