Who Man City could play on way to Champions League final - Etihad reunion and PSG threat

Manchester City cannot meet Arsenal in the Champions League until the final after the last-16 draw was made on Friday.

Manchester City could face a Champions League final showdown with rivals Arsenal after the two sides were kept on opposite sides of the draw.

Friday's last-16 draw paired the Blues with Real Madrid and mapped out the path to the final in Budapest. Should City progress into the last eight they will face the winners of Bayern Munich vs Atalanta.

Bayern, managed by City great Vincent Kompany, will be favourites to progress but Atalanta stunned Borussia Dortmund in the play-off round to highlight their threat.

City's potential semi-final opponents will come from the ties involving PSG vs Chelsea and Liverpool vs Galatasaray. Holders PSG overcame Monaco in the play-off round and will start as favourites against Liam Rosenior's men, while Liverpool will expect to overcome Galatasaray over two legs despite slipping to defeat in Istanbul in the League Phase.

Many of the big hitters are on City's side of the draw with Arsenal having - on paper - an easier route through the knockout phase.

The Gunners face Bayer Leverkusen in the last-16 and a quarter-final against Sporting Lisbon or Bodo/Glimt would follow. The potential last four opponents for Mikel Arteta's side will come from the ties involving Newcastle against Barcelona and Tottenham against Atletico Madrid. The Spanish pair seem the most likely challengers to Arsenal.

The last-16 fixture dates have yet to be confirmed and City's Premier League trip to West Ham, currently scheduled for 12.30pm, will move to an 8pm kick-off if the Blues are away in Europe on the Wednesday prior.

The last-16 ties take place next month with the first leg on March 10/11 and the second a week later. City, by virtue of finishing higher in the League Phase, will be at home in the second leg.
