Brentford has confirmed Aaron Hickey will not be back in time for the Bees’ Premier League encounter against Liverpool on Saturday.
The defender had started Brentford’s last two matches before the October international break, but an injury sustained while playing for Scotland prevented him from participating in Monday’s 2-0 win over West Ham.
The issue will also keep him out of Saturday’s clash against the champions, with Brentford confirming via its website that the 23-year-old will only return to full training this weekend and could be available for next week’s trip to Crystal Palace. But there was better news for the Bees, with the club revealing Paris Maghoma and Gustavo Nunes are in line to play on Saturday after recently returning from injury.
Other than Hickey, the only player definitely ruled out is Antoni Milambo. The midfielder is not expected to feature again this season after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury.
Meanwhile, Arne Slot confirmed on Friday that Jeremie Frimpong and Alisson will not be available for Liverpool. They join Giovanni Leoni on the list of absentees.
Slot also revealed Ryan Gravenberch and Alexander Isak remain doubtful for the game after suffering injuries over the last week.
“Jeremie is not in a good place,” Slot said on Friday. “He is definitely not going to play today, tomorrow, or next week. Hamstring injury, so that will take a while. Alex, not too bad. A question mark for the weekend, so let's see where he is then.
“That is the same to be said about Ryan. He did not travel with us [to Germany]. So today we are in and let’s see where he is. Alisson is not in the squad tomorrow. That is going to take a bit longer.”
Liverpool heads into the match on the back of a two-game losing streak in the league that has seen it fall to third in the table, while allowing Arsenal to amass a four-point lead at the summit.
Thankfully, Wednesday’s midweek victory over Eintracht Frankfurt prevented Liverpool from suffering its worst run of results since 1953.
As for Brentford, Andrews is beginning to build some momentum after a mixed start at the helm.
The West London club has faced five home games this season, all against European opposition, and has been beaten just once, when Manchester City emerged from the Gtech Community Stadium with a 1-0 win last month.
Brentford put in a dominant display against West Ham on Monday and was unfortunate not to rack up a huge margin of victory.
