Cagliari 0-2 Milan Primavera: Ossola and Castiello star in needed victory

Milan Primavera got back to winning ways in the league, beating Cagliari away from home in Sunday’s early kick-off.

Giovanni Renna’s side came into the game in Sardinia after back-to-back defeats against Sassuolo (1-2) and Genoa (0-2), after a positive start against Lecce in round one. Francesco Pisano’s Cagliari team had the same record, though they did lose the Supercoppa against Inter too.

The first half was not jam packed full of action in truth. The first chance came in the 21st minute as Malfitano’s shot from range was well saved, while the Rossoneri did not really create anything too dangerous.

However, the second half performance was much better from Milan. Ossola won a penalty in the 54th minute and he took the responsibility on, sending the goalkeeper Kehayov the wrong way.

A few minutes later, it was 2-0. Mancioppi passed to Ossola, who released Castiello with a splendid backheel on the edge of the box and his shot went past a rooted Kehayov.

Longoni made a couple of great saves inside the final 20 minutes to stop it from being a very nervy finish, and Milan secured a much-needed three points as well as a clean sheet from their travels.
