In the upcoming months, Mike Maignan’s future could be decided, though it could be an even longer wait. Right now, AC Milan will hope that the wait ends in success.
Contractual issues are nothing new with Milan. Last season, they lost Theo Hernandez to timing, and now it seems likely that Maignan will join the Frenchman in leaving the club. However, the Rossoneri will not get a fee in the summer.
Instead, the Rossoneri would watch their captain sign a deal elsewhere after his current contract expires. That is, of course, unless something incredible happens over the next few months.
This seems unlikely though, considering the goalkeeper reportedly has no interest in dealing with the current management, with talks silenced.
‘Would be a crime’
For Pietro Mazzara, the management must do everything to seal an extension on his deal, and he explained the negatives of the situation for MilanNews this afternoon.
“Now the management, led by Giorgio Furlani, should take a dramatic step back and sit down with Mike to renew his contract. The thought that in less than two months, Maignan could sign with another club and leave for free is pure madness.

“He’s one of the absolute leaders of this locker room, and you can’t afford to lose him like this. Sign him, call him to Casa Milan, try to put everything behind you, and reclaim that contract that was verbally drawn up in February and then scrapped due to negative feedback from his mistakes in the Champions League.
“Not renewing Maignan would be a crime.”
