Since Massimiliano Allegri arrived, AC Milan have returned to the European conversation. In fact, they are very much part of the Scudetto group.
The changes from the summer can be seen prominently at Milan. Ultimately, the Rossoneri have gone from a European outsider who were issue-ridden, to a Scudetto contender, even if they are not completely finished as an article.
Defensively, questions can be asked, and these issues remain when thinking further forward. There is a lot left to fix, but Allegri is slowly turning water into wine.
Capello discusses Milan’s chances
With a win and a draw in their last four games, some may be fearing the worst moving forward. However, Milan are still in an exceptional place. After all, they have only lost in the two cups, so they can now return to focusing solely on the league.
Perhaps, this gives them an advantage in the Scudetto race, and Fabio Capello has looked at the situation among the contenders for Gazzetta dello Sport.
Scudetto for five suitors?
“Why not? I don’t see anyone able to break away at the moment. They all score points, then they all slow down. Milan and Roma were in charge, now there is Inter, Napoli is always up there, Juve is seriously coming back into play…
“A discontinuity caused mainly by the cups. The teams can’t keep the pace always high and take turns giving up something.”
Milan swings…
“Milan loses points and takes goals: it’s not from Allegri. This is the drama, sporty of course, of the Rossoneri. They must find solidity in defence: mistakes and uncertainties have cost so many points so far.
“The attitude is very offensive, but that’s how you get into trouble behind. And then you had to do better with the little ones.”
Allegri lacks a strong defender, but also needs a striker. Is Fullkrug the solution?
“Important question that requires an important answer… For sure, without a 9, it’s hard to play. Fullkrug is an old-fashioned striker: there must have been a consultation in the company to evaluate who could be the right man.

“But it’s not just a matter of centre forwards: Milan doesn’t have European cups compared to the others and should take advantage of this advantage.”
