Fabio Capello has given an updated view on how he sees the Scudetto race at present, confirming his belief that AC Milan are Inter’s main rivals.
A glance at the Serie A table seems to show Inter running away with it given that they are eight points clear. However, there are four games for Milan to close the gap between now and the derby on March 8, starting with Friday’s trip to face Pisa.
That precedes Inter’s game against Juventus on Saturday, so Massimiliano Allegri’s side will hope to put some pressure on. Then comes the game in hand against Como next Wednesday, followed by Parma at home and Cremonese away. In short, a run could be put together, at least on paper.
Capello on the title
Capello did an interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport which was published in this morning’s edition, and provided his assessments on how he sees the title race going. MilanNews have relayed what he had to say.
“Everyone thinks Inter are the favourites. This is because of the way they play and how they approach every match with great quality, first and foremost, and maximum concentration, but there are still cups for the Nerazzurri, unlike, for example, Napoli and Milan,” he said.

“It’s not a detail. Chivu’s squad is undoubtedly very good and his players always perform, including those who are fielded when the match is easier and the coach rotates players: this means that the coach has got into the heads of his players.
“Among the chasing teams, I’d keep an eye on the Rossoneri in particular: they’re the closest in the standings, they’re improving, and they’re showing some excellent results.
“Massimiliano Allegri rightly says he’s thinking about the Champions League, but I think that, considering the upcoming matches, if I were him, I’d give some thought to chasing their cousins.
“The impact of the cups could become very important, even if Chivu is now also recovering some key players after overcoming the difficulties caused by their absences very well.”
