Carlo Ancelotti issues Gabriel injury update amid Arsenal concern and Liverpool title race

1 hour ago 23

Brazil boss Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Arsenal center-back Gabriel Magalhaes has picked up an adductor problem during the friendly victory against Senegal in what could be a timely title boost to Liverpool and Arne Slot.

When asked about the severity of Gabriel's knock, Ancelotti offered an assessment of the defender's condition. "Bad? I don't know, he had a problem on his adductor the medical staff have to check tomorrow," the Brazil manager stated.

"We are really sorry for this, really disappointed, when players have an injury I hope they can recover well and soon." This represents a significant setback for Arsenal, who take on Tottenham in the North London Derby in just over a week's time.

Riccardo Calafiori has also picked up a hip problem before linking up with the Italy squad, with reports indicating he could return to the club before the international window concludes.

These represent two of the Gunners' regular back four, whilst William Saliba and Jurrien Timber have emerged from matches with France and the Netherlands, respectively, without incident.

Mikel Arteta may turn to both Myles Lewis-Skelly and Piero Hincapie should he require replacements for either Gabriel or Calafiori in the forthcoming weeks.

Mikel Arteta will be ruing the injuries

Having avoided any complications during the previous two international periods, Arteta's concerns have finally materialised in November.

Beyond just the North London Derby, Arsenal encounter Bayern Munich and Chelsea in the subsequent days in what represents a crucial week for the Gunners as they pursue the Premier League crown and the UEFA Champions League.

Arsenal currently sits four points clear at the top of the Premier League and eight ahead of champions Liverpool, with Slot's men down in eighth.

The Reds know they cannot afford many more slip ups if they are to retain their crown. Nottingham Forest visits Anfield after the international break before a home game against PSV in the Champions League.

There are further matches against sides struggling towards the bottom of the table in West Ham and Leeds, either side of a game against high-flying Sunderland.
