CF: Detailed timeline emerges for new stadium construction and San Siro demolition

With AC Milan and Inter now the owners of San Siro, the roadmap can be officially laid out, and a report has looked at the plans.

There has been a lot of talk in the past few weeks about what will happen with San Siro and when. Of course, there is a lot to do, from demolition to building the new stadium. It is not a short-term project, so things will happen gradually.

It seems that the final step, as it were, will be taken in May 2032, so in almost seven years. Again, not a short process.

New plans

Today, Calcio e Finanza have provided a detailed breakdown of the plans from the next few weeks to the next few years. The end date of the project is actually closer to 2036, rather than 2032, it seems too.

Phase 1 of development: Construction of the new stadium and demolition of the Meazza

  • Environmental Impact Assessment plus Conference of Services for final project approval and issuing of permits (Stadium Law) – from July 2026 to March 2027 (8 months) 
  • Signing of the agreement for the Technical-Economic Feasibility Project and issuance and publication of the Regional Authorisation Provision – March 2027 
  • Signing of the urban planning agreement – ​​March 2027 
  • Executive design of the urbanisation works to offset costs and subsequent project validation – from August 2026 to January 2027 (6 months) 
  • Public tender for the construction of urbanisation works – from March 2027 to August 2027 (5 months) 
  • Executive design of private works – from October 2026 to July 2027 (9 months)

Phase 2 of development: Multipurpose area and Meazza redevelopment

  • Preparation and submission of the detailed urban planning proposal for Phase 2 – from July 2027 to January 2028 (6 months)
  • Approval of the detailed urban planning project for phase 2 – from January 2028 to December 2030 (36 months)
  • Preparation and submission of the Final Project to the competent authorities – from January 2031 to July 2031 (7 months)
  • Approval of the final project, signing of the agreement and issuing of the permits – from August 2031 to February 2032
  • Executive design of phase 2 works and final authorisations – from March 2032 to January 2033 (11 months)
  • Remediation interventions and subsequent certification – from September 2031 to June 2033 (22 months)
  • Mobilisation and implementation of phase 2 works, including the redevelopment of the Meazza – from July 2033 to November 2035 (29 months)

It is interesting to see that everything is planned in two phases, as it were. However, with it being two projects, effectively, it does make a lot of sense.
